Founded in Geneva in 2024, Pragma positions itself unapologetically within haute horlogerie — driven by radical standards of quality, absolute transparency and a fully Swiss execution that goes beyond conventional definitions. From the outset, excellence is treated not as a narrative but as a structural requirement: every component, every material, every process is questioned, documented and disclosed.

The watchmaker

At the heart of the project stands Christopher Wegener, co-founder and master watchmaker. His path began at Patek Philippe and Rolex before he joined François-Paul Journe at just nineteen, spending seven years alongside the most respected independents of his generation, later collaborating with Laurent Ferrier. Yet technical mastery alone, he insists, is not enough — the ambition behind Pragma was to define a framework that gives that expertise meaning.

Material honesty

The first real reflection was not about design or complications but substance: where materials come from, how they are transformed, what responsibility a modern Swiss watchmaker must assume. Supplier names are disclosed. Production choices are explained. Sustainability is approached as a technical constraint, not a marketing argument — Solar Stainless Steel emitting up to 165 times less CO₂ than conventional steel, recycled titanium for key movement components.

The object

Designed over a full year, the P1's architecture draws on Swiss architectural rationalism — precise, legible, uncompromising. At first glance restrained, almost familiar; on closer inspection a highly intellectual construction where any deviation would be immediately visible, from case geometry to dial clarity to independently certified chronometry. The Tantalum — Azurite Blue execution states the philosophy in metal: a rare element, notoriously difficult to machine, chosen for density, corrosion resistance and long-term stability.

Editorial opinion

Luxury has spent a century selling mystery. Pragma sells the opposite — receipts. In an industry where provenance is whispered and margins are veiled, disclosing suppliers by name is a quiet act of heresy. That it comes from a watchmaker formed at Journe's bench makes it credible. Haute horlogerie as an exercise in honesty.

Every watchmaker has know-how. That's what you learn at school.
